Just got word we lost a longtime pillar of our Church and just so sad as it sinks in. This lady was 89 years old and lived a good life and always faithful to her family, her church and her friends. I have been a member of the same church for almost 50 years and I have watched her hold every position in the church and carry out that duty in an excellent manner. She and her late husband set up a trust fund years ago to be sure the church would be in their ongoing plans.
She supported me in every event and fundraiser I had for that church year after year and would offer her opinion to you on what and how you were doing whether you asked her or not. I always appreciated that because I knew she had my best interest and my families best interest at all times.
I remember her calling me in my old job as Regional Director for an agency with the State of Texas and asking if I could help her daughter get a job. Of course I said yes and that daughter did such an amazing job it did not take her long to be promoted to our Austin area.
When my son was going on a foreign mission trip to play basketball in Italy she met me in the hallway at church gave a $500 check and said give this to your son for that trip and if he needs more let me know.
You see I knew this lady and her husband when I was just a kid working at the Paris Lanes when she and her husband bowled in a league and you know what she had the same heart and class then as she did when she took that last breath to cross over to heaven by treating me well and buying me food items at the bowling alley when I could not really afford them.
I could write pages of what this lady has done for me to make me a better person and always concerned for my well being, I will just say if you have senior mentors like this in your life feel blessed, say a prayer for their family and just know you will see them again someday.
